What are the best ways to enhance your poultry business?
Poultry (chicken) business basically has the broiler (chicken meat) and layers (chicken eggs) section. TO enhance your poultry business, I believe it should getting better sales, reduce cost, greater returns on your investment, waste management, and excellent biosecurity.
On ways to reduce cost, depending on the numbers of your flock, you should look at ways to install your own feed milling plant and mill your feed yourself. You will have a reduce cost on feeds (that's over 50% cost on poultry) that will also give your birds better nutrients compared to commercial feeds. In terms of waste management, you can convert and sell your waste as organic fertilizer to crop farmers (nothing is a waste anyway!). Ensure you limit access your pens (unauthorized personnel), use disinfectant when needed, get a vaccine protocol and observe it strictly to avoid mortalities and rate of output. Those are the basics.
Above all, it is poultry business and you intend to maximize returns on your investment, but you must ensure whatever you produce for your customer’s consumption must be of best quality. Whatever you cannot consume, don’t allow it go out to the public.
